The Wildlife Experience
The Wildlife Experience is a wildlife conservation museum featuring natural history, fine art and film located in Parker, Colorado, about 10 miles (16 km) south of Denver. The museum houses an extensive collection of natural history exhibits, paintings and sculpture, photography and large-format films. Rotating exhibits are devoted to wildlife conservation efforts and present a wide range of wildlife subjects, themes and learning experiences. The museum opened in 2002.
The mission of The Wildlife Experience is to instill respect for habitat and wildlife and inspire efforts to conserve for generations to come through educational, interactive and entertaining experiences.[1]
Exhibitions
Permanent Exhibitions
- Some Like It: Hot, Cold, Wet, and Dry - An Art Exhibit that showcases photography as well as taxidermy and sculptures displaying animals in their natural habitat.
- Colorado Profiles - An exhibit that documents the range of habitats found in Colorado through the well-known photography of John Fielder.
- Science on a Sphere, developed by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, uses a 6-foot (1.8 m) spherical screen to create an animated floating globe that can show how weather, temperature, vegetation, and other factors change over time.[2]
- Globeology - A 25,000-square-foot (2,300 m2) exhibit featuring eight biomes on earth opened in the summer of 2009. The biomes featured are Rainforest, Temperate Forest, Tundra, Savanna, Asian Highlands, Coral Reef, Desert, and Wild Colorado. Visitors start on the second floor and a path winds its way down through the various biomes. Starting in the summer of 2010, six 3-d screens with films about the animals in the various biomes were added to this exhibit.[2][3]
- Discovery Den - An exhibit for children ages six to twelve designed to engage children and enhance their knowledge of animals and the natural world.
- Cubs Corner - An exhibit for children ages five and under designed to provide a stimulating environment where kids can learn basic concepts and ideas about the natural world.
Extreme Screen Theater
The museum features a 2,700-square-foot (250 m2) screen designed by Iwerks Entertainment. The screen is composed of a "proprietary reflective material", and is contained in a wheelchair accessible, 315 seat theater.[4]
